This 5th annual showcase pairs acclaimed new music quartet Jelloslave (aka Purple Orange) with three different composers, each writing wildly diverse and original music for 2 cellos, tablas and drums, combining classical technique with sonic experimentation and outstanding grooves, resulting in an extraordinary and compelling soundscape.
Jelloslave, was formed in 2003 by cellists Jacqueline Ultan and Michelle Kinney, and became an established quartet with the addition of percussionists Greg Schutte and Gary Waryan.
Jelloslave (aka Purple Orange), hailed by Rebecca Lang of the Star Tribune as “…an infectious, mysterious melee of genres.” partners with the American Composers Forum to present three works by the winners of the 2018 ACF Showcase national competition.
Composers Robin Holcomb (Seattle, WA), Larry McDonough (Saint Paul, MN), and Harriet Steinke (Detroit, MI) will be in residence, working with Jelloslave during rehearsals May 31st & June 1st. Jelloslave will also feature works by Mary Ellen Childs, Michelle Kinney, and Jacqueline Ultan.
