Open Eye Figure Theatre Presents

CHICKEN SHIP

A world premiere!

September 20 - 23, 2018

Created and performed by Kevin Kling and Clare Murphy

A chicken wakes up in 2018 to the sky falling down. As she runs along a dangerous road littered with foxes and falsehoods, she encounters fables, myths, and history that illuminate and obfuscate her path. What will become of her and the ship she sailed in on? World-class storytellers Kevin Kling (USA) and Clare Murphy (Ireland) create a mythic allegory for our times, as told by farmyard animals. Kevin Kling has been a regular on the Open Eye stage for many years and for this show he's bringing back Irish storyteller Clare Murphy, first seen at Open Eye in FOUR DIRECTIONS.

A PRELUDE TO FAUST

20th Anniversary Production!

October 19 - November 11, 2018

Created by Michael Sommers

Michael Sommers’ puppet epic returns to the stage for a final performance! Inspired by Sommers’ longtime obsession with Goethe’s dramatic poem about a man who sells his soul to the devil, A PRELUDE TO FAUST conjures a miniature surreal world of tormented souls, flying spirits and disembodied hands. With virtuosic puppetry and an original score by Michael Koerner performed with a live orchestra, this landmark production is not to be missed!

A PRELUDE TO FAUST was commissioned by the Walker Art Center in 1998 and was our first production in our historic theatre in 2007. Open Eye co-founder Michael Sommers wrote the show after researching the Faust story in Germany and the Czech Republic.
