MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS
An international collaboration by Paradox Teatro!
Created by Sofia Padilla (Mexico City) & Davey T Steinman (Minneapolis)
In light of increasing border wall tensions between the Paradox Teatro co-founders’ home countries, the United States and Mexico, MIGRACIONES / MIGRATIONS follows the voyage of refugees as they travel across sand, water, and shadows in search of a new home. Paradox Teatro creates a unique blend of hybrid puppetry, sand drawings, multimedia projections, and live music to communicate across cultures in English and Spanish.
“We definitely want to bring more emotional awareness to the sensitive situations we are exposing, it’s hard for people to imagine what these migrants are going through. We are trying to make a more personal approach and experience, we put a face, a name and a story to the thousands that on the news are just numbers. The departure point for our show Migraciones started from our conversations and fears about the expanding border and restrictions between our countries and the powerlessness sensation that our future together could be deprived from us. We decided we needed to talk in our show about it, bringing more awareness to the subject! Also in honor of all those people whose needs push them to migrate far away from their homes forever.” — Paradox Teatro Co-Artistic Director Sofía Padilla
